We’re enjoying our new house out here in the country. It’s much different from where we lived in the city. Here, we don’t often hear the many sounds that come with city life. Being from Chicago, I love it out here in the quiet. But having been raised in city live, there are some things I’m not quite familiar with and often they catch me offguard. One day last week was no exeption.
It was a very quiet evening and I was ready to wind down from the day’s activities. I was ready to turn in for the night, but first decided to first spend time outside under God’s beautiful creation…the many stars in the sky and the view of the large mountain seen from our backyard. Afetr a time of meditation, I went inside and then realized that I hadn’t put food outside for our cats. I had already taken my glasses off, but I didn’t think it would be that big of an ordeal. Afeter all, I was merely going to the cabenet for the cat food and then just steps away from the door. When I turned around to go back into the house, I noticed that the door was still closing. Then I noticed a fluffy figgue out in the distance. I panicked with worry as I ran to get our beloved Fi-fi back inside. I was in shock that she went out. She had never done that before. Afetr all, our pampered Persian would not be able to handle the rough outside life. So, as I raced behind this fast little creature, I was just inches away and about to grab her when she stopped and looked directly at me. It was NOT our beloved pet. It was a possum! Oh my! I was in even more shock!
Later, I related this humorous moment to our spiritual walk. Often, certain problems and situations come in our lives and if we’re not careful, we just react to it without our spiritual glasses – God’s word. In Psalm 119:105 it says “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path” (NIV).
Before you go chasing after something make sure you give it some thought and seek HIS word and will.
